We understand that navigating the NDIS can be tricky sometimes, so here are some FAQs that we have found to be really helpful!

HOW DO I ACCESS LIFT UP VOICES THROUGH MY NDIS PLAN?

Lift Up Voices is a Registered NDIS Provider under the groups:

  • Participation in Community Social and Civic Activities
  • Group and Centre Based Activities 
  • Innovative Community Participation
  • Development of Daily Living and Life Skills
  • Therapeutic Supports

These registration groups fall under both CORE SUPPORTS and CAPACITY BUILDING funding types.

I HAVE A PLANNING MEETING COMING UP. WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE?

Lift Up Voices can provide prospective participants with detailed information regarding NDIS support categories and funding requirements to access our services. This can be helpful during your planning meeting to ensure your plan enables you to access the services and supports of your choice.

 

Additionally, the Every Australian Counts website has published a wonderful NDIS Planning Workbook to assist you through the process of developing your individual plan. It helps you to identify your needs, goals and current supports. A copy of the NDIS Planning Workbook can be found here.

WHAT IS THE NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME (NDIS)?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), is an exciting federal government initiative that puts you at the centre of the decision making process. It gives you greater control to choose how you want to live your life, your choice of supports and who you would like to deliver your supports.

 

The NDIS enables individuals to achiever greater independence, become more involved in the community, gain employment, improve wellbeing and achieve their goals.

WHAT IS THE NDIA?

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is responsible for implementing and managing the NDIS.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE NDIS?

You may be eligible to receive NDIS services if:

  • you are under 65 years of age
  • you are an Australia citizen, a permanent resident or New Zealand citizen who is a Protected Special Category Visa holder
  • you have a permanent or significant disability that requires help from others to do things, equipment or assistive technology

WHAT WILL THE NDIS COVER?

The NDIS will fund ‘reasonable and necessary’ supports and also:

  • Help you reach your goals and aspirations
  • Develop your capacity to actively take part in the community
  • Foster greater independence
  • Increase your social and economic participation

This can include things you’d like to access for learning, work, daily living, accommodation, equipment / assistive technology,  health, transport and hobbies.

I'VE BEEN TOLD I NEED A PLAN. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

A NDIS Plan is a document that outlines your needs, goals, aspirations and disability supports required (including any funding you might receive). Your first plan is the start is a lifelong relationship with the NDIS and as your life changes, so will your plan. Everyone in the NDIS has their own unique plan.

WHAT DO I DO BEFORE MY NDIS MEETING?

Before your meeting, it is important to pre-plan and start thinking about your goals, daily routine and the services and equipment you will need to live life your way.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MY NDIS MEETING?

Your NDIS Planning Meeting will be facilitated by a Local Area Coordinator (LAC), who represents the National Disability Insurance Agency. The LAC will talk to you about your goals, aspirations, services, supports and equipment that you need. You can ask for other people to support you at the meeting such as a family member, carer, advocate or Support Coordinator. 

HOW DO I MANAGE MY NDIS FUNDS AND SUPPORT?

You can choose to manage your NDIS plan with one of the following options:

  • SELF MANAGED: you take care of all the financial and administrative processes
  • PLAN MANAGED: you can nominate and service provider or organisation registered as a Plan Manager to oversee things.
  • AGENCY MANAGED: the NDIA will take care of the administration for your plan and make payments necessary to your chosen support provider
  • A combination of the above

CAN I CHOOSE MY SUPPORTS AND SERVICES?

The NDIS was established to give you the power to choose your own supports and service providers.
